Ukraine has approved a population census programme, which is scheduled for 2023. During this census, citizens will have to answer more than 50 questions. The State Statistics Service reports this.
The programme is coordinated with the requirements of national legislation, contains more than 50 questions and determines the list of demographic and socio-economic characteristics of individuals, households and housing conditions of the population.
Questions will be grouped into several blocks. They will contain information:
- about the main demographic characteristics (age, gender, place of birth, etc.);
- ethnic origin, language and citizenship;
- about education;
- about sources of livelihood;
- about employment;
- about migration activity;
- on the determination of the status of disability;
- about housing conditions.
It also became known that, unlike the previous census, the next one will be conducted using a mixed-method – using not only oral polls of citizens but also polls via the Internet and information from state registers.
According to the State Statistics Service, the answers to these questions will make it possible to assess the living conditions of each person and compare them with the situation in other states.
The last time the population census in Ukraine was carried out in 2001. According to her, there were 48.5 million Ukrainians, and the census budget was UAH 194.2 million.
As of December 1, 2019, the population of Ukraine (excluding the temporarily occupied territories of Donbass and Crimea) was 37.29 million people.
Recall that at the end of 2020, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the conduct of the All-Ukrainian Population Census in 2023.
And at a press marathon held on November 26, 2021, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is working on the development of an online census and electronic elections together with Microsoft and Apple.
Note that Ukraine will become the second country in the world after the United States to conduct a population census in cooperation with Apple.
